I hear ya - sometimes you just don't feel it. That's your creative juice saying it needs a refill, so take a rest and don't feel guilty about it...

Glad this was of service.

Thankfully the shutter mechanism is easy to take out and lubricate without losing any pieces. Still make sure you work on a white surface just in case anything falls off.

As the need to learn the technology and price factors continue to fall, everyone has become a photographer. Your 12 year old nephew uploads to stock photography websites as often as he floods flikr and myspace with new images.
However, the cream will always rise to the top.

Within the last 5-6 yrs. I've been engrossed in digital photography. First doing Astrophotography, then more terrestrial. Now I'm venturing into Infra Red.
I've started selling my photography and doing pretty well for a newcomer, small shows and such.
I'm a very technical person with a "good eye" I'm told. I've done all the thrashing with the cameras and lenses and printers, etc. to put out a good product.

Resently I've been ask to do an adult education class for a local center, about photography. It's going to be about the hows andwhys of my work.
Which is why I got to this place today.

I had to ask myself, What is Photography to me, why do I "do it".
What am I trying to portray to the prople willing to look at my images. Is my philosophy embedded in these images.
I believe I'm at the point were my photography is going to change drasticly for the better, if I think about this everytime I get behind the camera.

Great article.

Thank you Eliya, that sounds about right.

I'm pretty sure that at least some of the CF cards have internal self correcting/mapping of bad sectors, but this probably isn't perfect, and formatting would likely turn them up more often.

Inherent to Flash memory technology is the fact that sectors will inevitably fail eventually. According to wikipedia, "most commercially available flash products are guaranteed to withstand 100,000 write-erase-cycles for block 0, and no guarantees for other blocks... a typical user using a commercial device, such as a camera, with a flash drive will probably not wear out the memory for the effective life of the camera"

Of course, we may not be "typical" users, and the heavy use of the card increases the risk of data loss. Formatting the card regularly will instruct the card to find and skip over failed blocks.
