As the need to learn the technology and price factors continue to fall, everyone has become a photographer. Your 12 year old nephew uploads to stock photography websites as often as he floods flikr and myspace with new images.
However, the cream will always rise to the top.

Within the last 5-6 yrs. I've been engrossed in digital photography. First doing Astrophotography, then more terrestrial. Now I'm venturing into Infra Red.
I've started selling my photography and doing pretty well for a newcomer, small shows and such.
I'm a very technical person with a "good eye" I'm told. I've done all the thrashing with the cameras and lenses and printers, etc. to put out a good product.

Resently I've been ask to do an adult education class for a local center, about photography. It's going to be about the hows andwhys of my work.
Which is why I got to this place today.

I had to ask myself, What is Photography to me, why do I "do it".
What am I trying to portray to the prople willing to look at my images. Is my philosophy embedded in these images.
I believe I'm at the point were my photography is going to change drasticly for the better, if I think about this everytime I get behind the camera.

Great article.

I agree entirely.

I spent many years lugging around camera bodies, lenses, film (three different kinds), cleaning supplies, lighting accessories, a Polaroid camera and film, and the other impedimenta of "serious" photography circa 1980. (Let's not forget the darkroom and gear, too.) Then I got sick of the hassle and sold everything.

Fast forward to the 21st Century, when I again took up photos -- for fun, this time.

Now I own an H5. The Sony with its ultra-zoom is all I need for 95% of the images I want to capture, although I do carry a slaved flash and a roll of Mylar for when I want to get fancy.

I make far better photographs now than I did before, because I don't worry about the b.s. I shoot as much as I like, stick the chip into a card reader, and attack with PhotoShop Elements and FastStone. A good printer, and I have all I need.

Hooray for digital!
