Damn that Diopter
May 17th, 2006My new Canon 50mm f1.8 lens broke the other night. Well maybe it didn’t, but it definitely scared me.
One of our cats was acting particularly cute and Christa was begging me to bring out the camera to get a shot. I went and grabbed the camera, and as I lined the shot up I half pressed to shutter button to focus. Nothing happened, so I thought it must be set in manual, and proceeded to adjust the focus ring. There was a soft crack sound and then the focus ring turned normally. I stopped immediately and checked the lens properly only to see it was in fact still in AF mode. Oh dear. Sony puts the S in Serious
May 12th, 2006Well if there was any doubt that Sony is serious about becoming a world leader in the dSLR business, they are trying their hardest to put those doubts to rest.

It’s Alive!
May 12th, 2006Just when you thought film was dead (okay so not everyone thought that, don’t kill me please), Kodak and Fuji go and push the state of the art in film just that little bit further. And when I say “little bit” I really am understating it.
Fuji have officially release Provia 400X with, they claim, the same grain and color reproduction of their 100 speed reversal films. So high speed high quality imaging with film is now even easier. And then Kodak go and announce a new experimental B&W film rated at ISO 24000. Yes that is three zeros after the twenty four. Although it is only experimental, there is a form you can send in to ask for some test rolls of this film. Developed not with chemicals, but a heat process, this film definitely looks interesting; but Kodak were quick to point out that this is still experimental and they will only go ahead with full production of this film if they feel there is a market for it.
